THE CHIAPPA LIGHTHOUSE
Located on the Chiappa Point, at the entrance to the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, the lighthouse was built in the 19th Century. It is only accessible via a dirt track. It took six years to build and owes its design to Léonce Raynaud. It indicates the approach to the Bonifacio Strait further South. Every year, during the month of September, the lighthouse opens its doors to the general public as part of the European Heritage Days programme. It is closed during the rest of the year.
THE THREE THEMED CUSCIONU PATHS
discovering exceptional natural environments like the “pozzine” (water holes of variable depths and irregular shapes), rare and native plants and animals, mountain summer pastures and a migration area of particular environmental interest.
THE GIOVANNALI DISCOVERY PATH IN CARBINI
The village has suffered terribly at times in its history : it was completely flattened during the Barbary Pirate invasions and was at the heart of the bloody crusade against the Giovannali, a religious movement that was repressed in the 14th Century. The Pisan church that you will find at the very centre of the village has a single nave, flanked by a separate bell tower at the North-East of the apse. Your will be able to discover a whole series of explanatory signs linked to the history of the village and of this family all along the trail.
THE HERITAGE TRAIL AT SERRA DI SCOPAMENA
This path begins with a pretty cobblestone-paved descent through the village of Serra di Scopamena. You will then by able to join a gorgeous winding between dry stone walls that enclose old vegetable gardens, and discover traditional buildings that symbolise the mountain culture of Southern Corsica.
