ALTA ROCCA


The Alta Rocca is a mountainous area bounded by the mountains of Bavella, the Ospedale and plateau Cuscionu culminating Alcudina is at 2134 meters. Two major valleys, and Rizzanese Fiumicicoli give the area a wide opening to the sea

The massif of Bavella, the grandiose apology :


Panorama admirable Bavella granite needles and slender, erect to heaven, offer the most beautiful landscape of the Corse-du-Sud. The color of the rocks, the special light and almost sacred atmosphere combine to give the place its magnetism timeless.
The solid that can reach up to 1900m above sea level is also a mecca for rock climbing and hiking in Corsica (obligatory passage of the GR20). At the pass, lodges and inns welcome climbers and fans of the mountain to a stage in the local tradition ...

Levie, the capital of Alta Rocca :


A 10 km southwest of Zonza, is a center of Corsican prehistory. The village is home to the famous prehistoric and medieval museum, recently modernized, bringing together the collections of major excavations in the territory.
The Museum of the Alta Rocca reflects faithfully over the objects and bones, the experiences of people and wildlife of the region's pre-Neolithic in the Middle Ages. Its centerpiece: the only pre-Neolithic human remains in perfect condition, and fondly called "the lady of Bunifaziu" the place where it was discovered in 1972.

SAINTE LUCIE DE TALLANO, former stronghold of the medieval lords :


Village of the most picturesque, St. Lucia Tallano breathes authenticity and tradition. Unavoidable, this village perched above the valley 19 km from Rizzanese Sartène, offers travelers passing a summary of the charms of the far south.
The town was the capital of the feudal state of Rocca and the pieve Tallano as evidenced by yet another beautiful medieval fortified house located behind the village church ...

ZONZA :


The village of Zonza at the foot of massive Bavella is a crossroads for the Alta Rocca. The village offers a panoramic view of the Needles and Bavella Incudine is a resort popular for its hotels, restaurants, merchants and artisans.
The old houses built on granite boulders overlooking the valley of the Asinao, the Gothic Church of Zonza and the Romanesque chapel of Santa Barbara below the village, Shepherds of Luviu and fields of crocuses in spring, or the Racecourse Viseo, the highest in Europe where races are held in July and August.


Carbini, a famous church :


During its history, the town has suffered: it was completely demolished during the barbarian invasions and was at the heart of the bloody crusade against the Giovannali, a religious movement suppressed in the fourteenth century.
The Church of Pisa Carbini has a single nave, flanked by a single tower to the northeast of the apse.
A second church of the same style but smaller, dedicated to San Quilico were next to San Giovanni. We see the remains to the ground.
According to local tradition, the bell tower of San Giovanni is the work of Maestro Maternato, Pisan architect who created the deck of Rizzanese.

Quenza, beautiful landscapes :


The village consists of stone houses at the very special flavor, like the house of the sixteenth century with its piumbatoghu on the pinion, the defensive tower of the same period or Florentine castle (above) with its crenellated tower.
Below the village, the Romanesque chapel of Santa Maria, dated New Year's Mille is a listed building.
The parish church of St George has a few blocks in front of green serpentine of Roman origin.


SERRA DI Scopamena, heritage, history and culture :


The village of Serra has three hamlets of the Acqua Fritts, and that of the Vangonu Chiesa. All three contain beautiful granite houses, architectural proud.
